CBVC's management committee is trying to find out who within the club are qualified first aiders.

The question about qualified first aiders was raised following a discussion about getting a first aid kit together for each team when it was asked who in the club could administer first aid if needed.

Please let me know if you are a qualified first aider, and if therefore you would be happy to be a first aider for your team should the need ever arise.

Hi Lynda,

I am a qualified First Aider through work (St John's First Aid).

Basic first aid, ice packs and plasters, strapping to sprains can be applied by anyone. We shouldn't be giving out tablets or other medication.

It might be an idea to ensure anyone with any allergies is made known to the first aider prior to treatment eg to drugs/plasters (plasters often contain latex for example) etc, or if they have an underlying medical condition which means they are on medication sometimes/all of the time. This would be especially important if (worst case senario and hopefully never happens) they are injured, requiring hospitalisation but are also unable to communicate for whatever reason.

Cheryl.

Hi
I am a qualified first aider (appointed person certificate with St Johns ambulance) through school. It was done back in June of 2004 and runs out in June 2007.

There will be a First Aid course in Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday, 28 Oct and on Saturday, 4 Nov. Cost is £40, would be covered by the club if attendance is judged benefitial.

Cheryl,
the new membership forms for CoBVC will ask for allergies and other illnesses that the club should know about. Declaration is obviously optional, but I would hope that all serious stuff is declared.
